James Baldwin's Going To Meet The Man One Never forgets What They are Taught James Baldwin, an African American author born in Harlem, was raised by his violent step-father, David. His father was a lay preacher who hated whites and felt that all whites would be judged as they deserve by a vengeful God (Klinkowitz and Pritchard, p.1999). Usually, the father's anger was directed toward his son through violence. Baldwin's history, in part, aids him in his insight of racism within the family. He understands that racists are not born, but rather racists' attitudes and behaviors are learned in the early stages of childhood. Baldwin's Going to Meet the Man is a perfect example of his capability to analyze the growth of a innocent child to a racist. Every child is born with innocence. During the flashback to Jesse's childhood, where he witnesses the mutilation and torture of a blackman, Jesse's innocence is apparent. Jesse has a black friend named Otis who he hasn't seen for a few days. When he asks his father where Otis is, the father replies, I reckon Otis's folks was afrad to let him show himself this morning(Baldwin, p. 2006). Jesse naturally responds, But Otis ain't do nothing. His father explains, We just wanna make sure Otis don't do nothing, and you tell him what your Daddy said(Baldwin, p. 2006). This statement implies that because Otis is black, he is eventually going to do something wrong. The father has subconsciously put negative thoughts inside of Jesse's head. Baldwin's own father also acted in this way when he stereotyped all whites as being bad and claimed they would be punished by a vengeful God. In the midst of all the commotion, Jesse is unable to sleep the night before the lynching. Within another flashback to that night, Jesse feels a strong need to have his mother close to him but he knew his father would not like this(Baldwin, p. 2006). He wanted to call his mother and becomes very frustrated and angry with his father because the father is the reason that he could not got to his mother. He knows that they are going to have intercourse and this bothers him. He heard his mother's moan, his father's sigh; he gritted his teeth(Baldwin, p. 2006). Sigmund Freud's Edipus Complex explains Jesse's reaction. The Edipus Complex is a son's sexual longing for his mother. Jesse becomes jealous and his father's breathing seemed to fill the world(Baldwin, p. 2006). As result of the longing for the mother, a resentment toward the father arises because the father has the mother all to himself. Jesse, in this situation, would like to replace the father so that he may experience the mother in a sexual manner. Jesse does not shake this feeling until he replaces the longing of his mother with a clossnes to the father, a common effect of the Edipus complex. Jesse's innocence disappears completely during the flashback of the day of the lynching. The father is getting Jesse excited about the violence to come as he assures him, We're going on a picnic. You won't ever forget this picnic(Baldwin, p. 2007), Jesse replies, Are we going to see the bad nigger?(Baldwin, p. 2007). He uses the adjective bad, revealing the influence of the father 's previous comments about the black man. They arrive at the lynching and Jesse's father shows concern toward how Jesse is feeling, you all right?(Baldwin, p. 2009). Then, the father reached down suddenly and sat Jesse on his shoulders, making Jesse feel like he was bonding with his father. He felt secure. They watched the relentless burning of the negro together and Jesse last thought of innocence arouse, What did the man do?(Baldwin, p. 2010). After asking himself he looked to his mother and felt, she was more beautiful than he had ever seen her before and he began to feel a joy he had never felt before(B aldwin, p. 2010). After the Negro genitals were mutilated he was left to slowly die, the father looked to Jesse with peaceful eyes and said, Well, I told you, you wasn't ever going to forget this picnic(Baldwin, p.2010). It is as this moment that Freud's Edipus complex is once again displayed.

Pyramids of Giza essays One of the great wonders of the world is the Great Pyramids at Giza. They were many of thousands of year ago, before Christ was born. How in the world did the Egyptians build such a building? Their technology wasnt as advanced as are our today in the 20th century. They didnt have mechanical devices such as craters, or even cars. All they had were their hands, and maybe a wheel of some sort. Robert, an architect tried to build a scale model of one the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Khufu pyramid. Robert thought of all the possible ways the Egyptians used to build this pyramid with out modern technology. Probably one of the most difficult ways of building the pyramid was getting the rocks, weighing over 100 tons, over to the sight where the pyramid was to be built, from a quarry. Robert used something like a wheel to transport the rocks, weighing only about 1 ton from a quarry near the sight of the Khufu pyramid. He would have the stone on a wooden plaque and underneath would be logs of wood. A rope would be tied to the rock and men would pull the rope making the rock roll from log to log. As this was done, men would keep replacing logs in front to keep the path going. Even a 1-ton rock was incredibly heavy and took a lot of men, imagine the Egyptians transporting rocks over 100 tons to their destination. It would probably take 10 times as many men and effort. Also dont fo rget that what Robert was building was only a scale model, the Egyptians built the real thing meant for the Pharaoh Khufu to be buried in. Another problem Robert faced when constructing this scale model of the Pyramid of Khufu was getting the rocks to be placed properly on top of one other. When they had the first layer down, the next idea was to place the next layer of rocks. Imagine now lifting a 1-ton rock about 10 feet high. The blacks took part in these shows actively so as to prove a point; they wanted the others to know that it is a form of success for them. This also turned out to be a profitable plot for them, the colored people started making money through all this and it was all well and good. The shows are laughable because they are satire in nature aimed at bringing about a reform in our society and the way we perceive colored people. Compression Bandaging in Treatment of Venous Leg Ulcer - Essay Example The paper tells that persistent and long duration ulcers that do not heal within six weeks are known as chronic ulcers. Most common causes of leg ulcers include venous disease or arterial disease or both. 81% of leg ulcers are due to venous diseases, as surveyed by Health department of Ireland. Volatile Environments: Meaning To The Organization The organization exists in order to achieve a goal. To reach this purpose, it has to evolve in an environment with which it interacts. This environment implies all external elements that have the potential to affect the organization. Some elements have direct impact on the organization while others do not. Today the environment is changing so fast that it becomes increasingly volatile. In fact, it creates uncertainty. Thus, some opinions state that this changing environment represents great threats for the organization. However, other opinions see the volatile environment as an opportunity for the organization to innovate. Based on these considerations, this paper analyzes the different sectors of the external environment, highlights the way they influence the processes of the organization and demonstrates how they make up threats or opportunities for the organization. Part 1. The environment The external environment of the organization is made up of several sectors. Scholars state that: for each organization, ten sectors can be analyzed. These sectors can be all the outside institutions or forces that have impact to organizations ability to reach its goal. Organization has to interact with the market sector, the industry, the government and the financial institutions. It also has to cope with the economic conditions. Organizations need to get human resources, and adequate technology. All of these components imply the external environment. This external environment is not static. The elements with which organization works are quite dynamic. They change all the time. Most of the time, it is very hard for organization to even predict the change rates. Now, what are the characteristics of these elements? How volatile are they today? The Market Nowadays, customers are becoming increasingly advised. From day to day, they are arming with extensive information and they are being more resistant to stimuli. The clients want goods and services customized to their needs and their interest for a particular product can be abruptly shifted. Moreover in the context of the globalization, markets and technologies are more and more interconnected. Then, it is not easy to handle all the variables that motivate the choice of the customers. The industry It describes a particular business activity (for example, the software industry). This sector has a life cycle. This cycle shows an image of the changes observed in the industry over time. The life cycle is not static. It has several stages: birth stage, growth stage, shakeout stage, maturity stage and decline stage. Birth Growth Shakeout Maturity Decline (Exhibit 1) During the first stage, organizations seek to develop new services or goods. Then the services or the good gain customer acceptance and begin to grow rapidly. It is the second stage. The third stage is the most fragile. When the growth becomes visible, many organizations will enter the industry. Thus, the environment can be more agitated. During the fourth stages, the sector becomes more stable. Finally, during the last stage, the activities are quite slow. Most of the time, the life cycle changes very fast. When competitors, through advertising and new services or products, react with aggressiveness; instability occurs. The government In the government sector, several aspects can be analyzed. The political aspect makes up an important force. In many countries, changes in political arena may cause high uncertainty in the environment. In reality, these changes are not the main problems; in themselves. The issue is the way in which they occur and the outcomes they produce. In most countries, there are changes in political arena but the environment still stays more or less stable. The other aspects in the government sector are taxes, laws and regulations. In many government designs, they are all intertwined. Change is inherent to the government sector. The issue is when it occurs abruptly. For example, when a rupture suddenly happens in the political arena, it may create chaining effects on the whole environment and make it very unstable. The Financial and Economic conditions Every single manager knows that the world economy is intertwined. An economic crisis of a country may affect the economy of other countries. A recent example may be the recession in the United States. Many countries in the world have been hit by the effects of this crisis. Another example is the European crisis. A financial disequilibrium in few European countries cause great turbulences in the zone. Then it is clear that the influence of the intertwined economy cannot be neglected. The human resources In the global economy, highly qualified human resources make up a potential source of comparative advantage. They play a great role in the economy. The human resources represent valuable assets in the business environment. Today, scholars even talk about human capital. The idea is not to consider the human being as a machine which only provides services to organization. The approach is to have a better understanding on how the human skills can be an important booster for the economy of the 21st century. This sector broadly depends on universities outcomes. The influence of volatile environment on the Organization (threats) Considering that the organization is not an isolated entity, it is important to understand how it interacts with the environment into which it evolves. To have a better understanding of this interaction or the way the external elements influence the process of the organization, it is essential to know about the field of activity and the model of management adopted by the organization. Generally, organization may adopt traditional management or modern management. Nowadays, people even talk about post-modern management. In the traditional management theory, the organization elaborates proprietary knowledge. It uses this knowledge to extract advantages. Since this information is essential for its growth, the organization protects this knowledge and tries to make sure that it is not accessible by any other entities. To communicate with the external environment organization has to use official channels. In a few words, we can say that the organization puts more emphasis on its internal activities. The traditional management does not allow information and resources sharing. Thus, it becomes very difficult for an organization which adopts this model to compete in a context of globalization. Today, a new approach of competition is born. To be competitive in an environment where the resources are scarce, the organization has to develop relationships with other organizations. That is to say, the organization has to have a dynamic and an opened structure to survive. No organization can evolve in quarantine. Thus, we can conclude that an agitated industry may deadly affect the organization. The progress of the technology makes up one of the threatening elements that affect the process of a traditional management. Nowadays, to survive in a global environment, organizations have to open themselves to the technology. Between Wishes and Beliefs in Wild Grapes Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã In "Wild Grapes," Robert Frost demonstrates the complex thoughts and struggles of a woman who lives her life, wishing that she had gained a knowledge that would have made her life different. At the same time, she hopes to preserve the exhilarating way she lives her life. Through the use of character portrayal, metaphor, symbolism, and diction, Robert Frost suggests to the reader that although people know that they should prepare themselves to walk through life, they still listen to their hearts, which causes them to be unprepared for what lies ahead of them. The poem starts with the woman telling a story from her youth, which is engraved traumatically in her mind. Ã The story that the woman describes is about an incident that happens when her brother takes her to a glade where there is a grape tree standing alone. Her brother starts to climb the tree while she admires the tree filled with the grapes. Climbing even higher and picking some grapes to eat, he bends the tree to try to let her have some. As she picks her own grapes, he tells her to hold the top of the tree. So she holds the tree as she was told. The tree, however, catches and suspends her, and it keeps her there for a minute with its grapes. She starts to cry like a baby and does not know what to do. But she clings to the tree, even though her brother is telling her to let go. Trying to bend the tree down, her brother tells her to wait until he leads her down. Finally, against his advice she falls off the tree and feels the ground with her feet. Since the incident happened, the life that she has been living is something different than what she expects or what people expect . She knows sh... ...o her struggles that are engraved traumatically in her mind. Ã Robert Frost amazingly demonstrates the woman's complex thoughts through the use of character portrayal, metaphor, symbolism, and diction. He illustrates his clear idea about how she lives her life, having struggles in her mind. Reflecting her life in the story that she tells, the poem presents a journey to find out how and why she lives the way she lives between her wishes and beliefs. Using those devices effectively, Frost presents his ideas clearly and makes a strong impression on the reader. REPORT WRITING ABCD ABCD, the technical symposium, held true to its tagline- The best there was, the best there is, the best there ever will be. A throng of students from various colleges flocking the campus. The able coordinators led them through registration and to the paper presentation event which kicked off the day long extravaganza. The quizzing event had numerous students attending the preliminary event but only a few reached the final. The final was a nail-biting experience with cut-throat competition and a tie break win.Being from the computer science department, the students proved their mettle in the code debugging event, which was lauded by all the participants as an out of the ordinary approach to the competition. Mobile app development and digital art gave an opportunity for non-programmers. We also had non-technical events like Dumb charades and Adzap where students channelled their inner actor. Shipwreck and JAM events attracted many. The greatest hit however was full toss, an indoor version of cricket, the surprise event of the day.The success that we saw was not without reason. So, it would only be befitting to mention the long but rewarding journey behind it. The planning started out small, with the class representatives drawing up the budgets. Soon, all the students were pitching in with the organization of Kranti. Procuring sponsorship for the event was a revelation of sorts. We learnt a hard lesson that every rupee has to be earned and nothing comes free. Despite the scoffs, refusals, doors shut on our faces, we managed to get a whooping amount of two lakhs.The event brought out a whole new creative side of the students hidden behind a facade` of technical expertise. The walls were laced with authentic Indian art like warli and madhubani paintings. The boys erected a look-alike model of the Vivekananda memorial- a fitting centrepiece. The official website of abcd was built from scratch by our in-house technocrats. The state of the art crea tion showcased our theme beautifully and enabled students to register online. The experience taught us to work as a team and we came to respect each other.We played off each otherÃ¢â¬â¢s strengths while respecting our own shortcomings. This resulted in an efficient and organised event that went along without a hitch right up to the valedictory function. Participants filing out, the charts pulled down, furniture restored to their normal arrangement- the day was coming to an end. We were swarmed with a multitude of emotions. Relieved the event was over, euphoric the event was a success, sore to our every last bone, a little sad that life was back to normal, one thought unified us all- the day was going to be etched in our minds forever as the epitome of our college life.

Think of body language as an extension of your work dress code. These 10 tips will help you perfect that extra layer of confidence in interviews, meetings, or conversations with colleagues.1. DonÃ¢â¬â¢t slouch.Slumping is one of the biggest underminers of strong body language. It suggests youÃ¢â¬â¢re disinterested or unsure of yourself. So make sure you sit up straight, and keep those shoulders up and slightly back (not hunched around your ears).2. Shake hands like a pro.The best handshake is strong, but doesnÃ¢â¬â¢t crush. If you grip too tightly, it can be interpreted as a sign of aggression. If you barely grip at all, it suggests youÃ¢â¬â¢re timid or afraid of confrontation. If it helps to keep your hands still, fold them in your lap or on the table in front of you.8. DonÃ¢â¬â¢t be a bobblehead.Nodding too vigorously makes you look too anxious to agree or like youÃ¢â¬â¢re agreeing to something without really listening.9. F ace the music.Try to face the person youÃ¢â¬â¢re talking to head-on. Turning away makes the person think youÃ¢â¬â¢re disinterested or trying to hide something. Leadership is important because it enables a person to influence the work behavior of the people working on a project. Three effective leadership styles are transactional, charismatic, and transformational leadership. Without strong leadership the chances of project failure increases dramatically. A factor that is critical towards the success of a team is having adequate resources. A lack of resource s is a constraint that can lead to project failure. Initially, the American dream was concerned about creating opportunities for all Americans, opportunities that did not take into accounts either the race or nationality of people. According to the virtues of the American dream, all Americans deserve equal opportunities before the law. The idea criminalized any form of discrimination against any person due to his colour, race, religion, language, social class or nationality. Every person is entitled to equal opportunities such as job opportunities, enjoyment of rights and enjoyment of peopleÃ¢â¬â¢s freedom. The rate of unemployment in America stands at 7.60 per cent as at June of 2013 while the underemployed rate is at 14.3%. This results in a class difference between the Americans, the rich get richer and the poor remains poorer. Sex should not determine the amount of income that a person should receive.
